Share files with clients
Upload files on a client's Files tab and they appear in the client's portal. Your plan sets the largest file, a file with the same name becomes a new version, and you can hide working files from the client. Every file is checked before it can be downloaded, and deleted files can be restored for 30 days.
Upload files
On the client’s page, open the Files tab and select Upload, or drag files onto the page. The largest file depends on your plan: 250 MB on Solo, 1 GB on Studio, and 2 GB on Firm and Agency. Large files upload in parts straight to storage, so a slow connection doesn’t have to start again.
Organise files with New folder. To move a file, use its menu.
Choose what the client sees
Files are visible to the client unless you choose Hide from client in the file’s menu. Hidden files stay on the client’s page for your team only. Choose Show to client to share them later.
Versions
Upload a file with the same name as an existing one and it becomes a new version. The client sees the latest; open Version history in the file’s menu to download earlier versions.
Download several files
Select files and choose Download to get them as one zip, streamed straight from storage.
Checking and blocked files
Every upload is checked before it can be downloaded. While that happens the file shows Checking, usually for a few seconds. A file whose contents don’t match its type, or that looks like a program, is marked Blocked and can’t be downloaded; the uploader is told.
Deleted files
Deleting a file removes every version together. Deleted files stay under Files, then Deleted files, for 30 days, where you can Restore them. After that they’re removed for good.
If an upload fails
- “That file is … The Solo plan allows 250 MB”: the message names the plan that would take it. Compress the file, split it in two, or change plan in Settings, then Billing. Clients see the limit and are asked to compress or split the file.
- “Your firm has used all its storage”: delete files you no longer need, or move to a larger plan. Nothing is deleted automatically.
- The upload stops part-way: try again from the same browser; large files resume where they stopped.
